We Came Out is the first single from Echo in the Dark, a forthcoming collaborative album by Hanna Tuulikki and Tommy Perman, composed entirely from bat echolocation calls fused with the human voice.
The project grew out of a silent bat rave commissioned by Hospitalfield in Arbroath in 2022, drawing on recordings of UK bat species gathered through a nationwide open call and transformed into electronic compositions. Created from samples of the Lesser horseshoe bat’s warbling calls, We Came Out folds the hidden frequencies of the nocturnal world into a bass-driven 2-step track, fusing weightless vocals, skipping rhythms and echo-drenched production.
B-side Night Whispers moves deeper into the shadows. More minimal and spacious in form, the track samples Brown long-eared bat calls, tracing quieter movements between signal, atmosphere and voice — opening another path through the project’s nocturnal landscapes.
Echo in the Dark follows a series of transformations between species, myth and club form. Through field recordings, vocal composition and electronic production, Tuulikki and Perman draw out the porous edges between human and more-than-human experience, tracing a line between the natural world and the dancefloor.
